Leadership from outside the family can provide additional perspective and a set of capabilities that contribute to the sustainability and growth of your business. In this presentation and case study, we’ll examine four pivotal issues that family business owners and directors should consider in determining whether the next leader should come from outside the family firm. 

 

 
 

 

About the Presenters:

 

Bill Kea – Practice Leader – Family Business, Exceptional Leaders International

Bill is committed to helping management teams and organizations reach their goals. He spent 25 years as a CFO at growth stage and venture backed companies in manufacturing, technology, and healthcare prior to joining professional services to focus on closely held and family owned businesses. Bill, and his partners at Exceptional Leaders International (E.L.I.), believe that having been c-suite executives and consumers of the services they offer lets them uniquely understand what a successful engagement looks like from their client's perspective and is invaluable in delivering services that will be most impactful and provide the best results for family led businesses.

E.L.I.’s closely held and family owned practice has deep expertise in operational effectiveness (process improvement, cost analysis and reduction, program management, and equity negotiation and refinancing), M&A (succession planning and exit strategies), and Human Capital.

 

Bill holds a B.S. in Finance from Boston College and an M.B.A. from the F.W. Olin Graduate School of Business at Babson College. He is a member of the High Tech Financial Executives Network, Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society and serves as a board member for nonprofit organizations.

She’s energized by helping leaders, emerging talent and organizations turn crucial corners and find success, with a focus on family-led and closely held businesses operating across a range of sectors and markets.  

E.L.I.’s Human Capital Advisory Practice offers deep capabilities in strategic alignment, succession planning, leadership development, coaching, assessment, executive search and other services that help clients maximize their organization and talent. Her human capital expertise is grounded in her own 25-year career as an executive in financial services, technology, and professional services. Adept at assessing needs and building both individual and team capacity, she helps clients link the human capital strategy with the business strategy to drive results.

Marge holds an M.A. in Organizational Psychology and a B.A. in Psychology. She is a graduate of the External Coach Intensive Program at Columbia University and is a coach and facilitator for Harvard Business School’s Executive Education programs. Marge currently serves as pro bono CHRO for Recover Together, a mission-based, early-stage company treating opiate addiction.
