Careful listening is essential to every professional’s work. Given that, it’s remarkable that training, for most of us, contained no serious effort to help us master this skill. Professional training generally focuses on developing the practical skills that enable us to help the client before us. Yet the #1 reason clients tend to leave us is because they don’t feel properly heard.

About the Presenter
Presenter: Allen Siegel
Allen Siegel, MD, is a student of human behavior as it expresses itself in various venues. A native Chicagoan, he medically trained at the University of Illinois School of Medicine and completed his residency in psychiatry, at Michael Reese Hospital. During the time of Vietnam, he served at the US Naval Hospital, San Diego, where he helped repair our emotionally wounded sailors and Marines. Later, he completed his psychoanalytic studies at the Chicago Institute for Psychoanalysis. In his current practice, Dr. Siegel focuses on serving the psychological needs of family firms, as well as individuals and couples who come to him in pain. As the Family Business Doctor, Dr. Siegel helps family businesses, and their advisers, untie the emotional knots that limit the performance and enjoyment of family business.
Dr. Siegel is the author of the well-received book, Heinz Kohut and the Psychology of the Self (Routledge) as well as papers and articles on both individual treatment and family business matters. He teaches and lectures in the US and abroad. Currently, he is establishing a school for psychotherapy in Ankara, Turkey and will soon teach online in China.
