Manuscript Submissions

Family Business Review seeks manuscripts on new research findings, frameworks, and methodologies for business in family firms; development of theories and research on factors that affect family dynamics and organizational issues; applications theory to family firms; international, gender, generational, and legal and financial issues specific to family businesses.

Manuscripts from 15 to 25 pages long will be considered for publication. Each manuscript must be submitted to the editor electronically online at http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/fbr. Articles accepted, published, or submitted for publication elsewhere cannot be accepted by FBR.

Selection of articles for publication is made by the editor who relies primarily on the recommendations of reviewers. Manuscripts appropriate for consideration receive two or more independent blind reviews by members of the editorial board or other professional authorities. Reviewers evaluate manuscripts on their significance in advancing the understanding of family firms; development of general theory in family business; conceptual soundness; originality; logical and analytical qualities; provocativeness; and relevance for consultants, academics, and executives in family businesses.

FBR also publishes reviews of current books in the field. Reviews are by invitation of the book review editor. Reviews should not exceed ten double-spaced pages.

Manuscript Preparation

Type all copy -- including references, extracts, tables, and exhibits -- double-spaced in 12-point Times Roman font, leaving one-inch margins on all sides. Right margin should be ragged right (not justified). Pages should be numbered. The title page should include (1) title of the article; (2) names and primary affiliations of the author(s); (3) author's home and office telephone numbers, fax numbers, and e-mail addresses; (4) a brief abstract of no more than 100 words; and (5) several key words indicating content of the article. To facilitate the blind review process, please ensure that information about authors appears only on the title page. Citations and References. Do not use footnotes; incorporate all such material in the text. For literature citations in the text, supply author surname and date of publication, and include the original page number for each direct quotation and statistic; for example, (Knight, 1973) or Knight and Jones (1975, p. 74). Provide a double-spaced alphabetical list of only those references cited in the text. References without corresponding text citations will be omitted. Follow the reference style in the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, 4th edition, 1994, as illustrated in the following examples:

Figures and Tables
Clean copies of figures should accompany the manuscript, each on a separate sheet. Tables should be double-spaced on separate pages. Table notes should be keyed to the body of the table with letters rather than numbers. All figures and tables should have short descriptive titles and should include source notes if applicable. Figures and tables can appear in the text or can be uploaded as supplemental files for review.

Permissions
Authors are responsible for obtaining necessary written permission from publisher or copyright holder for reproduction of figures and tables and for extensive text quotations. If an article contains material reproduced from other sources, the necessary written permission must accompany the manuscript.

Publication Process

Prior to a manuscript being sent out  for review, authors are asked to sign a letter of agreement granting the publisher the right to copy edit, publish, and copyright the material. (The copyright agreement form can be found at http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/societyimages/fbr/fbr_caf.pdf. Completed forms should be faxed to 770-423-6721.) FBR editors are responsible for reviewing the copyediting for each issue and will only contact authors if clarification is needed. Copyedited manuscripts will not be returned to authors.
