Event Details:

Revolutionary Perspectives on Leadership Succession

Debbie Bing, President and Principal of CFAR, Ted Clark, Executive Director of the Northeastern University Center for Family Business, and Katelyn Husereau, Associate at CFAR, facilitate an interactive discussion on cross-generational perspectives on leadership succession. They will first present a framework for thinking about succession that challenges some of the “best” practices from our field, share a case—a story from the perspective of two members of a family business—and apply the lessons of this case to other settings in order to uncover the skills and behaviors necessary for successful transitions. This presentation will explore the myths and realities surrounding leadership transitions across generations.

About the Presenters:

Debbie Bing is President and Principal of CFAR. She began at CFAR as a Project Consultant in 1998, became an Associate in 1999, and a Principal in 2006. Her assumption of the Presidency in 2016 represents the shift to CFAR’s Second Generation of Leaders. Debbie is also a member of CFAR’s Board of Directors and co-leads the firm’s Family Business and Owner-led Business Group. As a second-generation owner of CFAR, she draws on personal experience in working through the dilemmas of strategy and succession.
