Ready or Not!
Growing and Innovating in the Family Firm

At this compelling Breakfast Meeting, Frank Hoy, currently president of the Family Enterprise Research Conference, will talk about how in today’s global and rapidly changing economy, managers cannot be simply administrators. They must be opportunity seekers and innovators.

Accompanying Frank will be Micah Chase, CEO of Checkerboard Ltd. Micah succeeded his father as head of the company and has faced the challenge of revitalizing a firm in a declining industry. He will share his story with us – how his father prepared him and drew him into the business, and how he is now raising his children. Micah comes not to tell you how things should be done, but to get your ideas on how he can become a better entrepreneur.

Frank Hoy holds the Paul R. Beswick Professorship in Innovation & Entrepreneurship at Worcester Polytechnic Institute. He joined the Family Firm Institute in 1988 and has served as vice president and chair of the Body of Knowledge Committee. He is a past president of the United States Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship. Frank and Pramodita Sharma co-authored Entrepreneurial Family Firms (Pearson, 2010). That book provides guidance for preparing family members for leadership roles in their firms. But Hoy and Sharma also advise owners on how to keep an enterprise entrepreneurial as it passes from one generation to another.
