Hiring Non-Family Executives for Family Businesses

There are many things to consider when hiring non-family executives for family businesses.  For example, the non-family CEO must be unusually secure, self-confident, and humble, not needing to prove themselves.  Often, family leadership reserves the right to drill down into the details of business whenever they want, and this can be a challenge to any non-family executive. "Fit” is also a key question in hiring non-family executives into family-owned business.  How to assess that requires self-knowledge on the part of the family business, but that is not the only predictor of success—other factors include the family values, incentives, mentoring and governance processes. In this meeting, our speaker will stimulate a lively discussion by describing the factors that are important for successfully navigating the process of hiring and retaining non-family executives.
